In 2023, the City of Lakeville is implementing a new water utility rate structure, moving from a three-tier to a four-tier rate structure. The amount of dollars the City is collecting in utility fees is the same, we are just distributing the cost against the highest users of water. No profit is made from the water utility systems.
About 50-60% of residential customers (based on 2020 usage) will see little to no change in their billing, or a possible reduction in their water bill overall. However, the more water you use, the more you will pay, which creates an equitable structure.
Money from established neighborhoods and businesses (utility fees) is used for maintenance of the current system. Money collected from new building (development fees), pays for new systems that need to be installed.
