This park was identified in the 2015 Parks, Trails and Open Space Plan (PDF) to serve the Cedar Crossing and nearby neighborhoods. Planning and design of Cedar Crossing Park began in 2020, neighbors to the park were invited to share their feedback on several master plan concepts. The final master plan was presented to the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Committee who approved it at their October 14, 2020 meeting. Construction of the park was completed in fall of 2021. The project was paid for through Park Dedication funds, the total cost of the project was $1,017,533.36.
What Are Park Dedication Funds?
The Park Dedication Fund is sustained through required Park Dedication Fees that developers must contribute at the completion of a new development. The required fees can be satisfied through a cash contribution, land dedication or a combination of both in some for instances. If a park space is not planned for a new development, the fees are collected in cash that can be utilized for new park construction and/or limited improvements. This and more information can be found in Lakeville's City Code.
What is the Adopt-A-Park Program?
Adopt-A-Park is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter, identify safety hazards and to freely communicate other issues associated with a particular park.
Program Guidelines
Adopt-A-Park is open to community groups, civic groups, churches and individual citizens for a minimum period of one year. Commitments may be for a longer term, preferably at least two years. Park sites are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to past Adopt-A-Park participants. For more information about adopting a park, contact Lakeville's Parks Administration by email.
