In 1997 the City purchased 8.5 acres from Edna and Bill Studer for the construction of Cherryview Park. The funding for the purchase was approved as part of the 1994 Park Bond Referendum. Planning and design of the park began in late 1995 with input from neighbors from the surrounding Cherryview development. The total cost of the project including construction and land acquisition was an estimated $245,150.
At the time, Keyland Homes was in the process of constructing Cherryview Third Addition and the need for a neighborhood park in this area had already been identified. With this plat, Outlot A (link to external website) was deeded to the City bringing the total acreage of the park to 10.63 acres. Since the City was already pursuing the purchase of park property from the Studers, Keyland homes made an additional cash contribution of $25,600 for their park dedication contribution for the Cherryview Third Addition plat.
The Studers resided in Lakeville since 1919 when Amandus and Hazel arrived after leaving their farm in Iowa. Relatives of the Studers moved to the Cherryview Park property in 1944. the Studers are recognized with a memorial plaque at the park in honor of their contributions to the Lakeville community.
What is the Adopt-A-Park Program?
Adopt-A-Park is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter, identify safety hazards and to freely communicate other issues associated with a particular park.
Program Guidelines
Adopt-A-Park is open to community groups, civic groups, churches and individual citizens for a minimum period of one year. Commitments may be for a longer term, preferably at least two years. Park sites are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to past Adopt-A-Park participants. For more information about adopting a park, contact Lakeville's Parks Administration by email.
