As part of the 1994 Park Bond Referendum, funding for park property acquisition was sought to construct parks in neighborhoods that were lacking them. Two such opportunities were identified in the Cherryview and Highcroft neighborhoods. Staff surveyed land owners and developers in the area in search of land that could be purchased for these parks. In 1995, the City purchased an estimated 8 acres at a cost of $127,000 from Greg Eiesel. The property was adjacent to park property that would be acquired from George and Barbara Frederickson with the Highcroft development as their park dedication contribution in 1997.
The playground was replaced in 2017 at a cost of $80,180.13 paid for by the Park Improvement Fund. As part of the 2021 Park Bond Referendum, the basketball court was reconstructed in 2022.
What is the Adopt-A-Park Program?
Adopt-A-Park is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter, identify safety hazards and to freely communicate other issues associated with a particular park.
Program Guidelines
Adopt-A-Park is open to community groups, civic groups, churches and individual citizens for a minimum period of one year. Commitments may be for a longer term, preferably at least two years. Park sites are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to past Adopt-A-Park participants. For more information about adopting a park, contact Lakeville's Parks Administration by email.
