The land for Steve Michaud Park (formerly North Park) was acquired through park dedications with the Rock Ridge development as early as 1984 and additional dedications throughout the late 1980's. Some parcels were purchased by the City as part of the 1994 Park Bond Referendum to meet the need for a community playfield in the northeast quadrant of the City. The original construction of the park included the play area, a portion of the parking area, athletic decks and picnic facilities. The park building was constructed at a later date with funding from the park bond referendum. The park is one of Lakeville's largest park properties and hosts a number of annual events including the Haunted Forest Festival and the Lakeville Soccer Father's Day Cup.
The park was renamed in 2012 to Steve Michaud Park in honor of the outgoing Parks and Recreation Director who oversaw the strategic planning of the Lakeville parks system.
In late 2016, the Land of Amazement playground was replaced after extensive fundraising efforts and the organization of a community build. Over 200 volunteers assisted City staff with construction of the new playground. The total cost of the playground replacement was $362,546. Corporate donations and grants totaled $207,214 with notable donations from Safety Signs, Lakeville Rotary, Lakeville Lions, BTD Manufacturing, Ratzlaff Homes, Inc., Lakeville Hy-vee and others. Private citizen donations totaled $6,679.
What is the Adopt-A-Park Program?
Adopt-A-Park is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter, identify safety hazards and to freely communicate other issues associated with a particular park.
Program Guidelines
Adopt-A-Park is open to community groups, civic groups, churches and individual citizens for a minimum period of one year. Commitments may be for a longer term, preferably at least two years. Park sites are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to past Adopt-A-Park participants. For more information about adopting a park, contact Lakeville's Parks Administration by email.
