The average lifespan of play equipment is 22-25 years or until repairs are no longer feasible or financially viable. Typically, 2-3 playgrounds reach their maximum lifetime and are replaced each year. Once a playground is due for replacement, staff works with a consultant to develop at least one but up to three master plan concepts and shares them with the surrounding neighborhood for feedback.
